Colorado, Washington State Await Federal Government Response to Marijuana Laws
Voters in Colorado and the state of Washington have approved initiatives to make marijuana legal. The Attorney General for the United States of America has not yet commented on the issue, beyond saying that his department is reviewing federal law on the subject. Officials from both states are looking to Washington,DC for further guidance on dealing with these measures, which make personal possession of up to an ounce of cannabis legal for those over 21 years of age. The Governor of Colorado, John Hickenlooper, issued a statement warning that federal law still made possession illegal. He was reported to have called the Justice Department immediately after the elections for advisement on the matter.
