Within the military, prescription drug abuse has skyrocketed between 2005 and 2008. Fully one third of returning Iraq war veterans show signs of alcohol abuse. Post traumatic stress puts hundreds of thousands of these young men and women at increased risk of falling prey to substance addictions. Because of survivors’ guilt, depression, sadness and shame, these brave protectors of our freedom need to be guided though positive therapies to help them reintegrate into civilian life.
