Remember and Reassess

Chelsea Carmona, Regional Manager for The OpEd project, highlights some staggering figures regarding drug addiction in light of International Remembrance Day, a day honoring those who have died from drug and alcohol abuse.: 1) Nearly 74% of young people (ages 14-25) become habitual users within one month of their first drug injection. 2) For every dollar the United States spends on drug treatment, $4-7 is spent on drug-related crime. 3) Almost 49% of people in the federal incarceration system during 1995-2003 were incarcerated for drug related offenses. These statistics serve as solid reminders that those who have died should be honored, but those who are living need to make addiction support and recovery a priority.
