The Dangers of Impaired Driving

The dangers of drunk driving are well-known; however, the dangers of driving after just a few drinks are not as frequently discussed. Legally, drunk driving is being driving while intoxicated with a Blood Alcohol Content of .08 or more. However, at only .02 BAC, the body warms and relaxes, and visual and multi-tasking functions become impaired, along with judgment. At .05 BAC, vision, balance, speech, and reaction time worsen, along with hearing and short-term memory. Signal detection, speed control, concentration, and judgment become seriously impaired. These conditions amount to dangerous consequences on the road when split-second decisions and quick reaction times could mean the difference between life and death.
