Mental Illness in Young Adults

A July briefing, organized by the AAAS and funded by the Dana Foundation, discussed the issue of mental illness in young adults. Nearly 50 federal scientists and congressional support staff attended the briefing on July 19th. Among the facets up for review regarding this complicated and common issue were key triggers for mental illness as well as treatment options. Abigail Baird, PhD, a teen brain specialist noted that, “If we could better understand what causes these people to stumble and help them get back up more quickly, I think we will have done a great service.”
