About Kagey Family Counseling
Licensed counselors with decades of clinical and personal experience guiding individuals and families through addiction, codependency and the long work of recovery.
Relief, healing and freedom from the effects of addiction.
At Kagey Family Counseling, we know both personally and professionally how powerful addiction is and how deeply it ripples through generations of a family. We also know, through our own recovery and decades of work with other people's, that a path forward exists for every person and every family.
Addiction, substance abuse, codependency, trauma and hard family dynamics are everywhere in our culture. It is more important than ever that people fighting this know there is help and there is hope. Shame, anger, guilt, betrayal, tension, isolation, those feelings are loud when addiction is in the room. You are not alone in any of it. We have been there, and in many ways still are. We meet you where you are and build the work around your values, your culture, your goals, and your pace.
Our counselors and recovery coaches are trained, highly experienced, and above all, compassionate. We know from the inside out what chemical dependency feels like. We know what it is to be consumed by a loved one's drinking or drug use. We know what it is to grow up in a family where substances took priority. We understand the trauma and the hard parts. We also understand the joys and the confusion. We never place blame, shame, or judgment on anyone who walks in the door.
The counselors you'll actually work with.
Every member of our team brings deep clinical experience, ongoing personal recovery, and a refusal to treat any two people like they are the same story.

As humans, we are meant to live, learn, love, grow and heal inside relationships. When one person in a family starts making healthy changes, the ripple moves through everyone. That is why we build therapy around the whole system, not just the person in the most obvious pain.
- A collaborative plan built around your history, values and goals, not a script
- Family and codependency work alongside individual counseling so everyone has a place to heal
- A range of evidence-based approaches: 12-step, CBT, DBT, EMDR, Gestalt, mindfulness, experiential, trauma-informed care, attachment theory, and Internal Family Systems (IFS)
- Ongoing personal recovery among our counselors so your work is met with humility, not theory
- We do not blame, shame, or judge you or your family
- In-office in Houston and secure online throughout Texas
Every person and every family comes to us with their own history and their own goals. We work collaboratively to shape a strategy that supports where you are today and where you want to go. You know yourself and your family best. We know addiction. Together we figure out what actually works for your life.
We offer evening appointments and have an office in Houston, TX. We also provide secure secure online therapy for anyone living anywhere in Texas outside the Houston area so the work can keep moving even when life gets busy.
There is freedom from the pain and shame of addiction. Taking a powerful first step, asking for help, is how every healing story starts.
