This is the seventh year that the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration has hosted the Voice Awards, which recognizes the work of behavioral health advocates and community leaders who further the cause of awareness and treatment. This year, a member of the Los Angeles Lakers, Metta World Peace, received special recognition for his financial support of nonprofit organizations that provide services for children. The screenwriter and producer Shonda Rhimes will be recognized for her work educating television audiences. William “Bill” White is receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award for his unflagging work in promoting recovery. He has worked in the field for over 40 years and written extensively on the subject.
