Most people believe that a person is either an alcoholic or not an alcoholic, but a new “in between” has been named: the “almost alcoholic”. The “almost alcoholic” exhibits some similar traits as the alcoholic, which can include drinking for un-recognized emotional reasons. While the “almost alcoholic” can be anyone, the largest population tends to be middle-aged and older adults. This has group is commonly skirting the edge of alcoholism much because of their age. Their body’s ability to metabolize alcohol decreases with age, though their drinking patterns do not necessarily change, and this can lead to dangerous physical and emotional health issues.
