Richard Nixon created the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) in 1973 which has spent countless man-hours and millions of dollars attempting to regulate illegal drugs, predominately marijuana. Probably the best advocates for lobbying against the ineffectual regulations surrounding marijuana are the members of LEAP, Law Enforcement Against Prohibition. In the current economy, members of LEAP argue that regulating marijuana could generate vast tax revenues. Along with that argument is the fact that, unlike alcohol, there has never been a death attributed to marijuana. Marijuana also rarely factors into violent confrontations as does alcohol.
